A former aide to Dr. Chris Ngige, the ex-Governor of Anambra State and former Minister of Labour and Employment, has hinted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may soon file charges against his former boss over alleged financial misdeeds.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the ex-aide revealed that the EFCC is reportedly reviewing petitions and documents that could implicate Ngige in misappropriation of public funds during his tenure as governor and later as a federal minister.
The former aide alleged that Ngige is under scrutiny for transactions involving constituency projects and funds managed during his time in office. While the EFCC has not made an official statement confirming the probe, the source claimed the commission had recently invited individuals linked to Ngige’s administration for questioning.
This development follows recent comments made by Dr. Ngige in which he criticized certain political figures and decisions within the All Progressives Congress (APC), prompting speculations that the renewed interest in his records may be politically motivated. However, the ex-aide insisted the EFCC’s actions were based on “credible allegations and documentary evidence,” not politics.
Efforts to reach Ngige for comment were unsuccessful at the time of this report. The EFCC also declined to officially confirm or deny whether Ngige is under investigation.
As Nigerians await clarity on the situation, civil society groups have called on the EFCC to act transparently and ensure that any legal action is based strictly on facts and due process, not political vendetta.
