Ex-Osun Speaker Najeem Salaam Named ADC Governorship Candidate for 2026

Ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the emergence of the former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Najeem Salaam, as its flagbearer.

Salaam, who previously served as Speaker from 2011 to 2019, was formally unveiled by the party leadership following a consultative process and internal screening. His emergence signals ADC’s intention to field a strong contender against the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other major political parties in the state.

Addressing supporters and party members at the unveiling ceremony held in Osogbo, ADC state chairman, Mr. Akeem Ogunniyi, expressed confidence in Salaam’s leadership experience and political track record. He described the former Speaker as “a grassroots politician with the capacity to deliver purposeful governance.”

In his acceptance speech, Salaam promised to run an inclusive and issue-based campaign focused on reviving the state’s economy, improving education, and ensuring transparency in governance. He also pledged to unite various interest groups within the state and promote peace and development.

“I am not new to governance. As Speaker, I understood the challenges our people faced. I am ready to bring my experience to serve Osun better,” he said.

Party leaders and supporters from across the state attended the event, with many expressing optimism that ADC now has a credible candidate capable of winning the 2026 election.

With Salaam’s emergence, the political atmosphere in Osun is expected to intensify as parties begin strategizing ahead of the polls.
