Ex-Zamfara Local Government Leader Killed by Suspected Bandits After ₦15m Ransom Payment

Gunmen have reportedly killed the former Vice Chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Alhaji Ibrahim Isah, despite receiving a ₦15 million ransom from his family.

According to local sources, Isah was abducted from his hometown about two weeks ago by armed men suspected to be bandits. His family had been negotiating for his release and eventually paid ₦15 million as ransom. However, the abductors failed to release him and later informed the family that he had been killed.

A resident of the area said the news of his death was a shock, especially after the huge ransom was delivered as instructed. “We thought he would be released once the payment was made. Instead, they called to say he had been killed,” the source said.

Isah’s body has not yet been recovered, as the bandits reportedly refused to disclose its location. The tragic incident has sparked outrage and fear in the local community, with many calling for urgent government intervention and improved security in the region.

Zamfara State has faced persistent insecurity in recent years, with banditry and kidnapping becoming widespread. Residents often rely on self-help or negotiate directly with abductors due to limited state presence in some rural areas.

State authorities are yet to release an official statement on the killing. Meanwhile, security operatives are reportedly investigating the matter in hopes of identifying those responsible and possibly recovering Isah’s remains. The community continues to mourn the loss of one of its leaders.
