Residents of Ora Igbomina, a community in Ifedayo Local Government Area, Osun State, were thrown into fear on Monday night after suspected bandits attacked the town, killing a community leader and abducting a retired customs officer.
According to local sources, the gunmen struck around 7:00 p.m., storming the border community along Akisa Road. The attackers allegedly forced their way into the home of Prince Emmanuel Owolabi, a former Customs officer, and kidnapped him before fleeing into the bush.
In the course of their escape, the bandits reportedly shot dead a community leader identified as Dennis, who was returning from his farm. The sudden violence sent residents fleeing into nearby houses and farmlands, leaving many in the community anxious and on edge.
Villagers told journalists that the sudden invasion has heightened long‑standing worries over security in the area, especially since Ora Igbomina shares boundaries with Kwara and Ekiti States, where similar bloody raids have occurred. Many residents are calling for improved protection and increased patrols by security forces to deter further attacks and safeguard lives.
The Osun State Police Command has confirmed receiving reports of the incident and said tactical teams have been deployed to track down the assailants and rescue the kidnapped former officer. Police spokesmen say they are collaborating with vigilante groups and community guards to scour the neighboring forests and farmlands where the bandits are believed to have fled.
The attack has reignited fears among residents about persistent banditry and insecurity in rural Osun communities, prompting renewed calls for enhanced military and police presence across vulnerable border towns.
