The Federal Government has announced that the last of the schoolchildren abducted from a Kaduna community has been handed over to authorities and reunited with family members, bringing an end to a distressing chapter that gripped the nation.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said security forces worked around the clock to secure the pupils’ freedom. He noted that the rescued child has since been taken to a medical facility for assessment and care before rejoining relatives.
Mr Idris explained that the final release followed coordinated intelligence and clearance operations by the military, police and other security agencies. “From the onset, the President mandated that all abducted pupils be traced and returned alive. We are grateful that this mission has now been completed,” he said.
Furthermore, the minister praised the sustained collaboration between federal and state security outfits, traditional leaders and community members in tracking down the victims and dismantling criminal networks that target schools.
He added that the government remains steadfast in its resolve to protect learning environments across the country. “We will intensify preventive measures, strengthen community policing and improve early warning systems around schools,” the minister stated.
Meanwhile, Kaduna State officials confirmed that the rescued pupil is stable and receiving psychosocial support. The state Commissioner for Internal Security assured that follow‑up measures are underway to help the child overcome trauma associated with the ordeal.
The Federal Government urged citizens to remain vigilant and encouraged prompt reporting of suspicious activities to security authorities. It reiterated its commitment to safeguarding children and ensuring that schools remain safe spaces for learning.
