The Federal Government has expressed grief over the deaths of Nigerian citizens in separate incidents in the United Kingdom and Canada.
In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was saddened by the tragic loss of lives and extended condolences to the victims’ families. Though details remain limited, the government confirmed that relevant Nigerian missions are working with local authorities in both countries to investigate the incidents.
“We are in contact with the families and are offering consular support where necessary,” the ministry said.
In the UK, local media reported that a Nigerian national was killed in what is believed to be a targeted attack. In Canada, authorities said a Nigerian passenger was shot and killed at a bus terminal under unclear circumstances.
The ministry condemned the acts of violence and called for thorough investigations to ensure justice is served. It also urged Nigerians abroad to remain vigilant and law-abiding as missions continue to offer assistance when needed.
Officials said the Nigerian government will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as investigations progress.
