FRSC Moves to Charge TikToker Peller Over Reckless Driving Incident

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to prosecute popular Nigerian TikTok creator Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a road traffic crash captured during a live video stream.

According to a statement by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, the incident — in which Peller was seen live streaming while driving — is considered a serious breach of road safety regulations and a danger to both the driver and other road users. The crash, which quickly circulated online, highlighted concerns about distracted driving linked to social media content creation.

In the statement signed by FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide, Mohammed warned that fame does not place anyone above the law, stressing that activities like live streaming, using a phone while driving, or engaging in content creation behind the wheel are major traffic violations. He added that such behaviour undermines national efforts to reduce road traffic accidents and safeguard lives on Nigerian highways.

The Corps Marshal has directed the Lagos State Sector Commander to begin formal prosecution of Peller on charges including reckless driving, distracted driving, and use of a phone while driving, in accordance with existing traffic laws. The FRSC also urged entertainment bodies, influencers, and content creator communities to promote responsible conduct and discourage dangerous driving behaviour among their members.

Mohammed reiterated that no social media trend or momentary online attention is worth compromising human lives, and called on Nigerians to help make the nation’s roads safer by reporting reckless driving.

Peller’s case has reignited public debate about road safety and the responsibilities of influencers when creating content on public roads.
