Fubara blames political tension for slow development in Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said that political crisis within the state slowed down governance and stalled development efforts in key sectors. He spoke during a media briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, addressing critics and outlining his administration’s achievements and challenges.

Fubara acknowledged that disagreements among political actors, especially during the early stages of his tenure, diverted attention from policy implementation. He said the lingering crisis affected strategic decision‑making and delayed some planned projects.

“We had to deal with internal issues that took our focus away from governing,” Fubara said. “That crisis consumed time and energy that should have gone into delivering services to our people.”

He noted that the situation forced his government to spend months settling disputes, engaging stakeholders, and rebuilding trust among political leaders and civil servants. According to him, restoring harmony became necessary to ensure smooth administration.

Despite the setbacks, Fubara highlighted efforts made in infrastructure, health, education, and security. He said the government has since accelerated work on road rehabilitation and community support programmes. He also pointed to increased recruitment of health workers and teachers as steps toward improving social services.

Fubara urged residents to remain patient as his administration works to overcome past interruptions and complete its agenda. He called on political players to support governance rather than undermine it.

The governor added that stability remains central to effective leadership. “We cannot achieve meaningful progress where politics overshadows policy and service delivery,” he said.

Fubara said his administration now focuses on unity and collective effort to deliver on campaign promises and improve the lives of Rivers people. He also reassured investors that the state remains open for business and growth.
