Gunmen have killed a police officer and abducted a Chinese expatriate during an attack on a farm in the Ogunmakin community near Ibadan in Oyo State ,police said.
The attack occurred about 1 p.m. Thursday at Aqua Triton Company, where about 10 armed men stormed the facility in a commando-style operation, according to police and local sources.
Police said the attackers seized the expatriate while he was inspecting crops on the farm. The police officer was killed while trying to repel the assault.
Confirming the incident, the state police spokesman, Ayanlade Olayinka, said a search had begun to rescue the abducted expatriate, whose identity he described as Chinese.
“I can confirm that an attack occurred at Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, when unknown gunmen stormed the facility,” Olayinka said. “One police officer died while repelling the attack, injuring some of the assailants, and the Chinese expatriate principal was abducted.”
Olayinka said the state’s police commissioner, Femi Haruna, ordered an immediate manhunt for the kidnappers.
“The assistant commissioner of police in charge of operations is leading the anti-kidnapping squad and other tactical teams,” he said. “A bush-combing operation is ongoing, and a full investigation has been launched to ensure the victim’s safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible.”
