Insecurity: Tinubu Meets Ex-CDS Musa, Plans for Major Security Shake-Up

Amid escalating insecurity across the country, President Bola Tinubu has begun moves to overhaul Nigeria’s security architecture.
As part of the emerging adjustments, the President on Monday summoned the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (rtd), to the Presidential Villa in Abuja for a closed-door meeting.

The meeting, which took place around 7:03 p.m., marks the first encounter between Tinubu and the former CDS since his retirement on October 24. General Musa was escorted into the President’s office by a senior security official.

Presidency sources described the discussion as a precursor to a significant restructuring of the nation’s security leadership. The shake-up could include the appointment of Musa as Defence Minister, following the resignation of Mohammed Badaru earlier in the day on health grounds.

Although no official statement was released on the agenda of the meeting, reliable sources revealed that deliberations focused on the worsening security situation in Northern Nigeria. Key incidents include the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, the attack on worshippers in Eruku, Kwara State, and the kidnapping of students from a Catholic school in Minna, Niger State.

The meeting comes days after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency on security, prompting intensified counterterrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across the northern region.
