It’s not personal  —  EFCC boss denies witch-hunting Malami

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has dismissed claims that the agency is targeting former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, for political reasons.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, Olukoyede said ongoing investigations into Malami were not personal but part of the agency’s commitment to fighting corruption across all levels of government.

“This is not about witch-hunting. It’s not personal,” he said. “We are investigating based on petitions and available evidence. Nobody is above the law.”

He emphasized that the EFCC operates within the boundaries of its mandate and does not act on political motivations or personal vendettas.

The commission has come under criticism from some quarters following reports that Malami is under investigation for alleged financial misconduct during his time in office. Malami has denied any wrongdoing.

Olukoyede said the EFCC remains focused on its duty to uphold transparency and accountability in public service, regardless of the individual involved.

“We have received petitions, and like every other case, we are doing our job. No one should see it as a political fight,” he added.
