Lagos firefighters extinguish blaze at Polaris Bank building

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said Thursday it extinguished a fire that broke out on the third floor of the Polaris Bank Building on Broad Street in Lagos Island.

The incident occurred at about 11:33 a.m. and involved a parked saloon car on the third floor of the 17-storey building, which also functions as a parking facility, authorities said.

Firefighters from the Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu fire stations were deployed to the scene shortly after the alarm was raised, according to a statement from Controller General Margaret Adeseye.

“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully extinguished a fire outbreak that occurred on the 3rd floor of the Polaris Bank Building, located at 61/65 Broad Street, Lagos Island,” Adeseye said.

She said only the vehicle and its immediate surroundings were affected and confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire.

Videos circulating on social media showed thick smoke billowing from the building as residents and business operators gathered nearby. Emergency responders were seen working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the structure.

Officials said further investigations are underway.
