Residents of Lagos on Wednesday joined ongoing protests calling for the release of kidnapped schoolchildren in Oyo State, as demonstrators marched through parts of the city to demand stronger action against rising insecurity.
Videos shared by Africa Independent Television (AIT) showed protesters carrying placards and chanting slogans as they marched from the Ikeja Under Bridge area. Demonstrators described the protest as peaceful and focused on drawing attention to the growing threat of kidnappings and other security challenges across the country.
Participants carried messages such as “No to abduction” and “Bring back our children,” urging authorities to intensify efforts to secure the release of abducted pupils and improve security nationwide.
Beyond the Oyo State abductions, protesters also highlighted reported kidnapping incidents in Bauchi State and concerns surrounding a school bus-related incident in Kogi State, saying the events reflect a broader security crisis affecting communities across Nigeria.
Security personnel were deployed to monitor the demonstration, regulate traffic and maintain order along the protest route.
The protest also generated reactions on social media, where some users questioned why security agencies were able to effectively manage traffic and provide security during the demonstration but appeared unable to prevent or respond swiftly to kidnappings in affected communities.
The demonstration is part of a growing wave of public concern over school abductions and insecurity, with citizens and advocacy groups calling for stronger measures to protect students and ensure the safe return of those held captive.
