The Lagos State Taskforce has arrested 32 individuals, commonly referred to as ‘Omotaku’, for causing public disturbances and obstructing traffic on major highways across the state. This operation was part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to restore order and ensure public safety.
According to a statement by the Taskforce’s spokesperson, Raheem Gbadeyan, the arrests were made during a coordinated enforcement exercise following complaints from residents about the activities of these individuals. The operation targeted areas including Apongbon, Fadeyi, Jibowu, Yaba Phase 1, Lagos Island, Palmgrove, Ojuelegba, and Surulere.
The suspects were apprehended for unlawfully stopping vehicles such as petroleum tankers, lorries, trucks, trailers, and private cars, thereby obstructing traffic and creating safety hazards. Some were also found smoking substances suspected to be hard drugs and Indian hemp.
CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, emphasized the agency’s commitment to maintaining public safety and order. He stated that the Taskforce would continue to identify and remove criminal elements from the state’s roads.
The operation successfully restored sanity to the affected areas, and all arrested individuals have been charged in court.
