Police operatives have arrested a man after recovering suspected human body parts from a commercial vehicle on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Oyo State,authorities said Sunday.
The discovery was made during a routine stop-and-search operation by officers of the Federal Highway Patrol near Guru Maharaji Village, police said in a statement issued in Ibadan.
Oyo State Police spokesperson Adewale Osifeso said officers found a red cloth containing bones and other items suspected to be parts of a human corpse concealed among passengers’ luggage.
The driver, identified as Kazeem Ayegbo, was traveling from Lagos to Osogbo when he was apprehended, the statement said.
“Investigation has commenced to determine the origin and intended purpose of the recovered items,” Osifeso said, adding that inquiries had been extended beyond Oyo State to identify and arrest others linked to the incident.
He said the suspect would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
