The Federal Government has disbursed 11.8 billion naira to 6,842 academic and nonacademic staff in Nigerian tertiary institutions under the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund.
Beneficiaries were drawn from 141 institutions, including federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
The TISSF, launched in August 2025, is a program of the Federal Ministry of Education and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, or TETFund, aimed at improving staff welfare, career development and financial stability through zero-interest loans.
Under the scheme, eligible staff can access loans of up to 10 million naira.
Data published by the Federal Ministry of Education show 34,000 verified applicants from 219 institutions. Staff of federal universities account for 59% of applicants, followed by polytechnics at 23% and colleges of education at 18%.
As part of the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative, 240 electric tricycles have also been distributed across 12 institutions.
According to the ministry, the program provides loans of up to 10 million naira per staff member at 0% interest, with a minimum eligibility requirement of five years to retirement.
Other initiatives include the EduRevamp Teacher Platform, a digital training system introduced earlier in 2026 to strengthen teachers’ skills, and the School Safety Portal, developed in partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to enhance school security management.
The ministry said the EduRevamp platform, launched at the first National Teacher Summit in January 2026, has recorded 37,000 registered users, including 18,000 teachers fully enrolled in its training modules.
The platform offers audio and video lessons, case studies and certification for continuous professional development.
The School Safety Portal, created under the School Safety Act of 2025, contains data on more than 156,000 geolocated schools, according to the ministry.
