New Year: Kwara uncovers attack plan, alerts residents

The Kwara State Government has uncovered a suspected plan to launch attacks during the New Year celebrations. In response, it has urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.

In a statement on Monday, Commissioner for Communications, Bola Olukoju, said intelligence reports pointed to potential threats targeting public spaces and gatherings. The government has since intensified security across the state, especially in Ilorin, the capital.

Olukoju explained that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had directed security agencies to strengthen patrols, boost surveillance, and increase presence in key locations. She urged residents to report any suspicious activity or unfamiliar faces in their communities.

“We are not taking any chances. The safety of lives and property remains our top priority,” Olukoju said. “The public must stay alert, avoid late-night movements, and cooperate with law enforcement.”

She assured citizens that the government is working closely with federal security bodies to prevent any form of violence or disruption during the festive period.

The commissioner also appealed to religious leaders, youth groups, and community heads to spread the message of caution and peace. She emphasized that unity and cooperation would help frustrate any plot to destabilize the state.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful and secure environment as the new year begins, promising continued investment in security infrastructure and intelligence gathering to safeguard the state.
