The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said it will deploy more than 57,000 personnel nationwide to secure churches, parks, shopping malls and recreational centers ahead of Easter celebrations.
In a statement, the corps’ spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, said the operation is a proactive measure to prevent security breaches during one of the country’s busiest holiday periods.
The deployment, approved by Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi, will cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
It includes specialized tactical units and intelligence operatives tasked with protecting lives, property and critical national assets.
Audi directed zonal commanders and state commandants to maintain heightened security across their jurisdictions, with increased surveillance at high-risk and high-traffic locations.
“Our goal is to ensure a seamless and secure Easter celebration for all Nigerians,” he said, adding that the corps is working closely with other security agencies and urging citizens to remain vigilant.
Road safety agency urges caution
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun state advised motorists to limit travel and avoid speeding to reduce road crashes during the holiday.
The Itori unit commander, Babatunde Gold, said the warning is necessary to prevent avoidable loss of lives during the festive period.
He urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid dangerous driving and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before traveling.
Gold also called for cooperation with FRSC personnel, noting that a special patrol operation would be conducted to respond to emergencies and enforce compliance.
He said the measures are aimed at reducing preventable crashes during Easter and beyond.
