Nigeria Will Overcome Banditry – Akpabio Assures Nigerians

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed strong optimism that Nigeria will overcome banditry and related security challenges by 2026.

Speaking during a visit to Zamfara State, Akpabio said the federal government, in collaboration with security agencies, is intensifying efforts to restore peace across the country. He stated that President Bola Tinubu remains committed to tackling insecurity through sustained military operations and strategic development in affected areas.

“We are confident that by 2026, banditry will become history,” Akpabio said. “The government is deploying resources, intelligence, and political will to end this menace.”

He acknowledged the suffering of communities in Zamfara, Katsina, and other parts of the North due to constant attacks. He assured residents that relief is coming as the government continues to strengthen the capacity of the armed forces and security agencies.

Akpabio also commended the sacrifices of Nigerian soldiers on the frontline and called for greater community cooperation with security operatives. He urged local leaders to engage the youth and discourage them from joining criminal groups.

“Development cannot thrive in insecurity,” he noted. “This is why peace and stability are top priorities for the National Assembly and the Executive.”

Zamfara Governor, Dauda Lawal, who hosted Akpabio, appreciated the Senate President’s visit and reaffirmed the state’s support for federal initiatives against insecurity.

The visit included an inspection of military formations and displaced persons’ camps, where Akpabio pledged continued legislative support to improve the lives of affected citizens.
