The Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has challenged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to present fresh ideas and set itself apart from other political parties. Speaking at the ADC National Convention in Abuja, Obi stressed that Nigerians are tired of recycled promises and deserve genuine change.
He urged ADC leaders to build a party rooted in integrity, innovation, and service. “Nigeria is in crisis,” Obi said. “The people want a new direction, not more of the same. If ADC wants to earn their trust, it must be bold, different, and people-focused.”
Obi warned that merely changing faces without changing values would not fix Nigeria’s problems. He also criticised the political culture of entitlement and mediocrity, saying only competent and honest leadership can move the country forward.
The former Anambra governor called for unity among reform-minded parties and leaders. He urged the ADC to collaborate with others genuinely interested in rebuilding Nigeria, not just winning elections.
ADC leaders welcomed Obi’s presence and message. The National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, said the party was committed to pushing for a restructured and inclusive Nigeria. He promised internal reforms that would make ADC a viable platform for progressive Nigerians.
Obi’s remarks come as smaller parties prepare for the 2027 general elections. Analysts believe his call signals a push for stronger coalitions and policy-based campaigns rather than personality-driven politics.
Obi concluded by saying, “We owe it to the youth and future generations to build a Nigeria that works for all.”
