The APC alleged that the current administration weakened the state’s security structure from the outset in 2019 by sidelining critical stakeholders from joint security operations.
According to the party, traditional rulers and other relevant institutions had continued to be excluded from security engagements, while the government allegedly prioritised the purchase of luxury vehicles for some security agencies at huge costs.
The opposition party also claimed that the Makinde administration spent nearly N8bn on surveillance aircraft, but residents had yet to witness any meaningful impact since July 2025 despite continued attacks by bandits and other criminal elements.
The APC further accused the administration of allegedly arming political thugs loyal to Mukaila Auxiliary to intimidate opposition members and residents, saying the consequences of such actions had become evident.
On the South-West Security Network, the party said available reports indicated that personnel of the Oyo Amotekun Corps were poorly treated, alleging inadequate salaries, poor welfare packages and lack of insurance and retirement benefits.
The party added that many operatives were allegedly deployed to assignments serving the interests of those in power rather than public security.
The APC also faulted Makinde’s renewed call for the establishment of state police, alleging that the governor previously opposed the initiative when it was first proposed.
According to the party, while 16 governors submitted memoranda on the proposed framework for state police to the Federal Government in March 2024, Makinde neither submitted a memorandum nor supported the process.
The APC recalled that the governor, during an interview on Channels Television, reportedly described the idea of state police as “a waste of time.”
The party said it was regrettable that Makinde was now shifting responsibility to the Presidency despite receiving billions of naira in security votes monthly.
The APC urged the governor to take immediate action to secure the release of all abducted victims and improve security across the state.
