Popular Lagos-based cleric, Pastor Chris Okafor, has surrendered to the police following murder allegations linked to an incident on his church premises. The founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, also known as Liberation City, turned himself in at the Lagos State Police Command after days of public outcry and media attention.
Police sources said Pastor Okafor submitted himself for questioning at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, where he was grilled over his alleged involvement in a violent clash that led to the death of a man near his church. The incident reportedly involved church security and local residents, who accused the church of encroachment and harassment.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, had earlier ordered the SCID to investigate the matter thoroughly. He assured the public that the command would ensure transparency and fairness in handling the case, regardless of the parties involved.
Following his appearance at the SCID, the police confirmed that Pastor Okafor was cooperating with investigators. He was not immediately detained but was asked to return for further questioning as the probe continues. Eyewitnesses and other persons of interest have also been invited.
The case has sparked public interest, with many calling for justice for the deceased while urging authorities to resist any attempt to cover up the matter due to the pastor’s influence. The police said investigations are ongoing and updates will be provided as they develop.
