The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the Federal Government to prioritize the fight against insecurity, warning that rising violence across the country threatens lives and economic stability. In a statement on Monday, the opposition party expressed concern over persistent killings, kidnappings, and bandit attacks, especially in the North and Middle Belt regions.
The PDP accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of focusing more on political survival than on protecting Nigerians. It called on President Bola Tinubu to shift attention from partisan interests and take immediate, strategic action to strengthen national security. “What Nigerians need now is safety, not political games,” the party said.
Meanwhile, the APC dismissed the PDP’s criticism, insisting that the current administration remains committed to implementing its Renewed Hope agenda. The party said its policies are designed to address economic and security challenges, but it accused the PDP of attempting to score cheap political points.
APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the government has launched several initiatives to improve policing and military responses to threats. He urged Nigerians to remain patient and support ongoing reforms.
However, the PDP maintained that the government’s efforts remain insufficient. It demanded a comprehensive review of national security strategies and better coordination among security agencies.
With growing public concern, civil society groups have also joined calls for more transparency and urgency in addressing insecurity. As tension rises, the political blame game between the APC and PDP continues, while Nigerians await effective action.
