There is growing tension within the Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as two prominent members — former House of Representatives member, Hon. Abdulrahman Badamasuiy Anyebe, and the former Acting Chairman of the party, Hassan Gambo — trade accusations over the state party leadership.
Anyebe accused Gambo of parading himself as the state chairman of the party despite being removed from office by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). He alleged that Gambo’s actions were in defiance of the party’s internal processes and threatened the unity of the PDP in Kogi.
According to Anyebe, “The party’s NWC made a clear decision regarding the leadership. Gambo’s continued claim to the chairmanship is not only misleading but undermines our efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 elections.”
In response, Gambo dismissed Anyebe’s claims, insisting that due process was not followed in his removal and accusing his opponents of orchestrating a power grab. He maintained that his leadership had the support of several key stakeholders in the state and warned that attempts to force him out without proper procedure would be resisted.
Gambo said, “My removal was done in bad faith. It was politically motivated and not backed by the party’s constitution. I remain the acting chairman until the party decides otherwise.”
The leadership crisis threatens to weaken the PDP’s already fragile structure in Kogi State, with many party loyalists calling for urgent reconciliation efforts by the national leadership to restore unity and focus.
