RCCG Denies Claims Linking Adeboye to Politics, Protest Cancellation

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has denied claims linking its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, to partisan politics, the cancellation of a planned protest and alleged silence on national issues.

In a statement released Tuesday on the church’s official public relations X account, RCCG said Adeboye has consistently encouraged members to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate in elections by voting for candidates of their choice.

The church said Adeboye has maintained political neutrality, noting that RCCG members belong to different political parties and should exercise their civic rights responsibly.

RCCG also dismissed reports that Adeboye called off a planned protest, describing the claim as false.

According to the church, the cleric only communicated a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria regarding changes to the activities of a three-day prayer program. The revised arrangement involved holding the grand finale at a central venue and organizing a rally around the location.

The church said the directive originated from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and was communicated to member churches nationwide.

RCCG further rejected allegations that Adeboye has remained silent on issues affecting the country, stating that he has publicly addressed matters including insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections, governance and the need for righteous leadership.

The church said Adeboye typically approaches such issues through prayer, moral guidance and counsel rather than partisan political engagement or confrontation.

RCCG urged the public not to rely on what it described as false narratives and inaccurate representations of the church and its leader.

It advised members of the public to seek information about Adeboye and the church through official communication channels and authorized representatives.

The church stressed the importance of accuracy and fact-checking in reports concerning Adeboye and RCCG, warning against the spread of unverified claims and speculation.

“The public deserves truthful information, the Church deserves fair representation, and Pastor Adeboye deserves accurate reporting,” the statement said.

RCCG concluded by urging the public to verify information before sharing it.

“Verify before you believe. Fact-check before you publish. Truth matters,” the statement said.
