Sokoto Gov. Aliyu Moves to Decongest City, Unveils New Motor Parks Plan

Sokoto State Gov. Ahmed Aliyu says four additional motor parks under construction by his administration will soon be completed and opened for use.

Aliyu made the announcement Thursday while commiserating with victims of a fire at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.

In a statement issued by Abubakar Bawa, director general of media and publicity at Government House, the governor said the new motor parks are at various stages of completion and are intended to decongest the central facility, which he said has become overcrowded due to population growth.

“Our motor parks are gradually becoming congested due to the increase in population, hence the need to decongest them,” Aliyu said. “That is why we came up with the idea of constructing four motor parks located in different parts of the metropolis.”

He assured victims of the fire of government support to help them recover and resume their businesses. He also urged residents to accept the incident as the will of God and prayed for protection against future disasters.

Aliyu called for stricter adherence to safety regulations, particularly in handling flammable materials, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering development projects across the state.

The governor also appealed for continued public support and prayers.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Nasiru Aliyu Dan Tsoho, said no lives were lost in the fire, though several properties were destroyed. He thanked the governor for visiting the scene, describing the visit as a show of concern for residents.

Aliyu was accompanied on the visit by senior government officials, including State All Progressives Congress Chairman Haruna Adiya, North-West APC Secretary Isa Saddiq Achida, House Leader Bello Idris, and Aminu Almustafa Boza, who represents Sabon Birni North in the state assembly, along with other political appointees.
