Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna State on Tuesday accused the federal government of orchestrating the persecution and harassment of former Gov. Nasir el-Rufai and other opposition figures.
Speaking at a news conference in Kaduna, party officials said the alleged actions are politically motivated and warned they could undermine democracy and erode public trust in governance.
The ADC called on civil society organizations and the international community to closely monitor developments in Kaduna State and across Nigeria.
Prof. Sani Bello, an ADC chieftain who read the statement, said recent events point to “a troubling pattern of abuse of state institutions, disregard for due process, and erosion of democratic norms.”
The party alleged that actions against el-Rufai, a prominent opposition figure, are aimed at weakening his influence. It also accused federal agencies — including the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Department of State Services — of being misused.
According to Bello, the agencies have continued to pursue cases against el-Rufai and his associates despite what he described as a lack of credible evidence.
