Tinubu approves oil drilling in Ogun, deep seaport take off

President Bola Tinubu has approved the commencement of oil drilling activities in Ogun State and given the green light for the state’s proposed deep seaport to begin operations, government officials said.

The approvals, officials said, are aimed at boosting economic growth, expanding Nigeria’s energy output and improving maritime infrastructure in the southwest region.

Ogun State authorities said the oil drilling project is expected to create jobs, attract investment and increase revenue for both the state and the federal government, while adhering to environmental and regulatory standards.

The deep seaport project, long proposed as a logistics hub, is expected to ease pressure on existing ports in Lagos and enhance trade by providing modern facilities for cargo handling and exports.

Speaking on the developments, Ogun State officials said the projects align with the administration’s broader agenda to diversify the economy, improve infrastructure and strengthen regional development.

Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil producer, has been seeking to expand exploration activities and modernize port infrastructure as part of efforts to drive growth and reduce bottlenecks in trade and energy sectors.
