Tinubu Calls Anthony Joshua After Ogun Accident

President Bola Tinubu on Monday spoke with British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, after the athlete survived a road accident in Ogun State.

Joshua, who was in Nigeria for a personal visit, reportedly had a minor crash while traveling from Sagamu to Lagos over the weekend. The incident involved his convoy but left no casualties, only vehicle damage.

In a phone call, Tinubu expressed relief that Joshua was safe and unharmed. He commended the former heavyweight champion for remaining calm and composed during the incident. The President also wished him continued success in and outside the boxing ring, noting that Joshua continues to be a source of pride for Nigeria.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed the conversation in a statement. According to him, the President used the opportunity to thank Joshua for constantly projecting Nigeria positively on the world stage.

Ngelale said, “President Tinubu thanked Anthony Joshua for his patriotism and calm response to the incident. He also urged him to keep inspiring young Nigerians through discipline, humility, and resilience.”

Joshua, in response, expressed appreciation for the President’s concern. He reassured Tinubu that he remained committed to supporting youth empowerment in Nigeria, especially through sports and mentorship initiatives.

The Ogun State Police Command had earlier confirmed the incident, describing it as minor and involving a minor collision between a security vehicle and a commercial bus. No injuries were reported.

Joshua, known for his ties to Nigeria, has frequently visited the country and recently expressed interest in contributing to its sports development.
