Umahi Says Tinubu Has Met Igbo Demands

Minister of Works, David Umahi, says President Bola Tinubu has done more for the South-East than any other Nigerian leader in recent times. According to Umahi, Tinubu’s inclusive governance style has addressed long-standing concerns of marginalisation among the Igbo, giving them “the Biafra they seek” through development, appointments, and political recognition.

Speaking in Ebonyi during a New Year event, Umahi praised the president for approving key federal road projects across the region, including the Enugu-Onitsha, Enugu-Port Harcourt, and Aba-Ikot Ekpene expressways. He added that ongoing infrastructure upgrades are helping to connect the region with the rest of the country, boosting trade and reducing isolation.

“President Tinubu has shown love to the South-East. What some were agitating for violently, he is offering through equity and justice,” Umahi said.

He urged the Igbo to support Tinubu’s administration and embrace national unity rather than separatism. He noted that political inclusion is more effective than armed agitation in achieving regional progress.

Umahi also highlighted Tinubu’s appointments of South-East sons and daughters into key positions, including himself as Works Minister and others in finance, technology, and trade sectors.

He called on separatist groups to drop their demands and engage with the government through dialogue and peaceful advocacy. “Our people now have a voice and presence in the system. Let’s not miss this opportunity to work with the centre,” he said.

The remarks stirred mixed reactions, with some praising his message of peace, while others questioned its symbolism.
