The Federal Government says diplomatic ties between Nigeria and the United States have strengthened following recent disagreements between the two countries.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said both governments took steps to address areas of concern and restore mutual trust. The dispute, which centred on diplomatic protocols and policy differences, created tension for a period. However, officials from both sides engaged in dialogue to resolve the issues.
According to the statement, the United States and Nigeria reaffirmed their commitment to shared goals in security, trade, and democratic governance. The ministry said high‑level meetings helped clear misunderstandings and set a new tone for cooperation.
“Both sides recognised the importance of this partnership,” the statement read. “We resolved outstanding matters and pledged to work together on issues that matter to our people.”
The Federal Government also highlighted ongoing collaboration with the US on counter‑terrorism, economic development, and health initiatives. It said these joint efforts would continue to benefit Nigerians and Americans alike.
Analysts welcomed the renewed engagement, saying stability in bilateral relations is critical for investment, security cooperation, and regional stability. They noted that both countries have a history of working together on peacekeeping, anti‑corruption measures, and infrastructure support.
Foreign Affairs officials urged Nigerians to view the reconciliation as a positive development. They said improved ties would open more opportunities for youth exchanges, business partnerships and educational programmes.
The ministry added that both governments plan to hold further talks to expand areas of cooperation and avoid future disputes. It said Nigeria remains committed to strong, respectful relations with the United States.
