Gunmen have kidnapped the wife and twin children of the younger brother of Bayo Adelabu, a former minister of power and a governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.
The abduction reportedly occurred on Wednesday in the Challenge area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident as of the time of reporting, and details surrounding the circumstances of the kidnapping remained unclear.
The incident is the latest in a series of abductions that have heightened concerns about worsening insecurity across Oyo State.
On May 15, more than 40 teachers and students were abducted during an attack in Ahoro-Esiele, located in Oriire Local Government Area. The mass kidnapping sparked widespread condemnation and renewed calls for stronger security measures in the state.
In December 2025, an APC chieftain in Oyo State, Wale Oriade, was also kidnapped by armed men in Ibadan. The incident occurred at his office in the PJ Square Shopping Complex near the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited station in the Elewure area along Akala Expressway.
The recent wave of kidnappings has intensified public concern over security challenges in Oyo State, including in urban centers that were previously considered relatively safe.
