Wike Accuses Politicians of Targeting Rivers’ N600bn Fund

Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has accused some politicians of plotting to take control of the state’s N600 billion funds. He claimed these politicians are less interested in the people’s welfare and more focused on seizing the state’s resources.

Speaking during a media chat, Wike said the growing political crisis in Rivers is driven by greed, not governance. “Some people are fighting not because they want to serve but because they’ve seen over N600 billion in the state’s coffers,” he said.

Wike, now the FCT Minister, defended his influence in Rivers politics, saying his involvement has always been about protecting the interest of the people. He denied claims of interfering with the current administration but insisted he won’t watch the state fall into the hands of those he described as “desperate looters.”

The rift between Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has escalated in recent months, with both camps exchanging accusations. Wike warned that mismanagement of the state’s resources could return Rivers to darker days of insecurity and underdevelopment.

He urged Rivers people to remain alert and resist any attempt to derail progress. “This state must not return to chaos. We fought hard to bring peace and development,” he added.

Analysts believe the tug-of-war over the state’s finances may shape political alliances ahead of 2027. Meanwhile, calls for reconciliation continue to mount, as leaders within the PDP seek a peaceful resolution to the lingering crisis.
