The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security measures across the state ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, assuring residents of safety during the festive season.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, the command stated that tactical units, including anti-kidnapping, anti-cultism, and other special squads, have been deployed to strategic locations such as highways, worship centres, markets, and recreation spots.
The police said this move is to prevent crime and ensure law and order throughout the festivities. Patrol teams and surveillance units will also be active in both urban and rural areas to swiftly respond to any threat.
As part of the preparations, the command reiterated the ban on the use of fireworks, firecrackers, and bangers, warning that violators will face legal consequences. The police said these explosives often cause panic and can be exploited by criminals to commit crimes or create unrest.
Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, urged parents to warn their children against using fireworks and advised the public to celebrate responsibly. He also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity or individuals to the nearest police station or through emergency lines.
The statement further assured that the police are working closely with other security agencies to maintain peace during the yuletide. The command extended festive greetings to Ogun residents and promised a safe and peaceful celebration.
