A coalition of northern youth groups has announced a donation of 200 million naira ($—) to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
The group, which described itself as a platform of young political stakeholders from across northern Nigeria, said the donation was meant to back Tinubu’s policies and encourage continuity in governance. Speaking at a news conference in Abuja on Monday, the group’s leaders said the funds were contributed by members and supporters from the region.
According to the organisers, the decision to support Tinubu was based on what they described as his administration’s efforts in economic reforms, infrastructure development and security, particularly in the North. They said the president’s policies had begun to yield results and deserved a second term.
The youths urged other Nigerians, especially young people, to participate actively in the political process and support leaders they believe can deliver inclusive development. They also pledged to mobilise grassroots support for Tinubu across the region ahead of the 2027 polls.
There was no immediate response from the presidency to the donation announcement. However, officials of the ruling All Progressives Congress have repeatedly said Tinubu remains focused on governance and has not formally launched a re-election campaign.
Nigeria’s next presidential election is scheduled for 2027, though political alignments and early endorsements have begun to emerge across the country.
