Former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, an aspirant for the All Progressives Congress governorship ticket in Oyo State, met Wednesday with APC ward executives across the state’s 33 local government areas as part of his grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 election.
Addressing party officials at the Jogor Centre on Liberty Road in Ibadan, Adelabu said strengthening the party’s grassroots structure was key to rebuilding the APC and reclaiming power in 2027.
He described ward executives as “pillars of the party” and said no government can achieve meaningful development without grassroots participation.
Adelabu, who recently resigned from the federal government to pursue his governorship ambition, had on Tuesday met with members of the APC state executive council and formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 election.
Speaking at the party secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, he expressed confidence in securing the party’s ticket and winning the election, while rejecting calls for the adoption of a consensus candidate.
He said his engagements were aimed at formally notifying party leaders of his ambition and reaffirming his loyalty to the APC and commitment to Oyo State’s development.
His declaration comes amid reported endorsements of Sen. Sharafadeen Alli, who represents Oyo South, by some APC leaders as a preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship race.
On Wednesday, Adelabu said ward executives play a critical role in shaping party direction and political support.
“Sustainable progress in this state must begin from the communities, where the real impact of governance is felt,” he said. “My vision for 2027 goes beyond winning an election but focuses on inclusive development rooted in grassroots engagement.”
He added that he would rely on party members to achieve his ambition.
“I can’t do it alone. I need your support in the fulfilment of my gubernatorial ambition,” he said. “I won’t disappoint you and the people of the state if elected governor in 2027.”
Adelabu urged party leaders across local governments to remain united and committed to APC ideals, saying victory in 2027 would depend on strong ward-level mobilization.
He also pledged continued engagement with party structures and promised to prioritize their welfare if elected.
APC leader in Akinyele Local Government, Isiaka Alimi, praised Adelabu for his commitment to the party and urged members to support his governorship bid.
