Operatives of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps have arrested five suspected gunmen shortly after their arrival in the state.
The suspects were apprehended Wednesday in Ekiti West Local Government Area with arms and other items recovered from them, the corps’ communications officer, Adeleye Adewale, said in a statement Thursday in Ado Ekiti.
Those arrested were identified as Abdulahi Makana, 28; Shuaba Ibrahim, 25; Adamu Muhammed, 25; Shlibu Umar, 31; and Aruna Yahaya, 28.
Adewale said the suspects, believed to be from northern Nigeria, were arrested at Itawure after alighting from a vehicle at a motor park near a church along Itawure Road.
“Following reports from residents, Amotekun operatives moved swiftly to the scene and arrested all five suspects. Dangerous weapons were recovered from them,” he said.
Items recovered include two locally made guns, an axe, a dagger, two dogs, five mobile phones and assorted charms.
Adewale said the suspects claimed to be farmers during interrogation but failed to provide evidence to support the claim.
He added that the suspects and recovered items have been handed over to the Ekiti West Police Command for further investigation.
