Man arrested for Fatal Stabbing over N25,000 debt in Ogun

Police in Ogun State have arrested a 37-year-old man, Opeyemi Olaniyan, for allegedly stabbing a 27-year-old man to death during a fight at a beer parlour in the Agbado area of Ifo Local Government.

Police said the incident occurred late Saturday night after Olaniyan arrived at the bar to demand payment of a N25,000 debt owed to him since last year. When he did not receive an immediate response, he allegedly became violent, broke a bottle and threatened people at the premises.

In the ensuing confrontation, Olaniyan reportedly stabbed Ayomide Oyekunle in the hand and stomach with the broken bottle while attempting to force his way into the bar.

The victim was rushed to Strong Tower Hospital in Giwa Oke Aro, where he later died while receiving treatment.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer Oluseyi Babaseyi said the incident was reported by the bar owner and that the suspect has been taken into custody.

The victim’s body has been deposited at Life Channel Morgue in Olambe for an autopsy.

Babaseyi added that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further investigation and possible prosecution.
