NDLEA Storms BUK Area, Arrests Six in Drug Crackdown

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it has arrested six suspects and dismantled drug spots in a raid around Bayero University Kano.

The agency’s Kano Strategic Command carried out the operation at the university’s old site area following complaints about drug trafficking and substance abuse around the campus.

In a statement Monday, spokesperson Sadiq Maigatari said the raid was conducted under the leadership of Commander DY Lawal as part of an operation code-named “Sharar Mafaka.”

Maigatari said the action followed a formal complaint from the university management over suspected drug dealers and users operating within parts of the campus and nearby communities.

He said six suspects were arrested during the raid, while items linked to the alleged activities were seized and destroyed.

The agency said the operation underscores its commitment to ensuring a drug-free environment for students, staff and surrounding communities.

It added that the effort highlights the need for collaboration between law enforcement and educational institutions in tackling drug abuse and related crimes.

The agency also warned against using school premises and public institutions for drug-related activities, urging the public to report suspicious behavior to authorities.
