A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said it is reaching out to former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, led by the party’s acting National Chairman, Obinna Nwosu, disclosed its plans during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday. Nwosu said the alliance aims to “rescue Nigeria” from failed leadership and deepen democracy.
“We are engaging credible leaders across party lines,” he said. “Jonathan, Saraki, and Makinde represent the kind of vision and leadership Nigeria needs. Talks are ongoing.”
The ADC has faced internal division in recent years, with factions battling over control of the party. However, Nwosu’s camp insists it remains committed to rebuilding the party and forming a coalition strong enough to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress and opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
A source close to the talks said discussions were still at the preliminary stage, with no formal commitments yet from Jonathan, Saraki, or Makinde. Political analysts say any coalition involving the three figures could shift the balance in 2027, especially if they can unite opposition voices.
The party also plans a national convention to unveil its roadmap for 2027. “Our goal is unity, strategy, and service to Nigerians,” Nwosu said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has not released the 2027 timetable but early political realignments are already taking shape.
