Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Abia State Peoples Democratic Party Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, on Thursday urged voters to reject the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general election, saying the opposition party has “failed Nigerians” and should not be entrusted with power.
Speaking in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, Emeka-Yellow said the PDP in the state remains “firmly on ground” and would present “credible, competent and people-oriented candidates” in the next elections.
He also called on party members and residents to resist any attempt by the APC to gain political control in Abia, describing the ruling party at the federal level as responsible for economic hardship, insecurity and declining public confidence.
“The APC has proven, beyond doubt, to be a monumental failure,” he said, adding that inflation, unemployment and business closures had worsened under its leadership.
Emeka-Yellow, who leads a PDP faction aligned with Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, said the group remains confident of legal victory after appealing a court ruling that annulled Turaki’s emergence as a national party leader. He said the matter is pending before the Supreme Court.
He also alleged that internal PDP leadership changes in Abia had been validated by court rulings, including the removal of former state chairman Abraham Amah, though the circumstances remain subject to legal and political dispute.
Emeka-Yellow urged opposition parties in Abia to unite against what he called attempts by the APC to “destabilize” the state politically, and called for collaboration among political actors to defend democracy.
He added that the PDP is “repositioned and reinvigorated” to challenge the APC in 2027, while appealing for unity among party supporters ahead of the elections.
