The All Progressives Congress has dismissed recent criticisms from the African Democratic Congress over its nationwide membership registration exercise, describing them as driven by fear, jealousy and intimidation.
In a statement, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka said the opposition party’s claims that civil servants were being coerced to register were false and aimed at discrediting the ruling party’s digital registration drive.
“That claim is entirely false and baseless and is aimed at casting a shadow over the cutting-edge and pathbreaking digitisation of our party’s membership register,” Morka said. “It forms part of the ADC’s disinformation campaign, which included the fabrication and circulation of a fake ‘APC membership slip’ purporting that a notorious terrorist had registered as a member of the APC.”
The APC recently announced a surge in new members following the launch of its electronic registration platform, a development that has drawn criticism from opposition parties.
Morka attributed the turnout to what he described as the growing impact of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying its outcomes had encouraged Nigerians to voluntarily identify with the ruling party.
“Inspired by the visible gains and impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda, millions of Nigerians have registered and continue to register voluntarily and enthusiastically as members of our party,” he said.
He added that the response prompted the party to extend the registration deadline from Jan. 31 to Feb. 8, 2026, to allow more prospective members to participate.
According to Morka, the ADC’s reaction reflects unease over the APC’s expanding support base, but he said this did not justify what he described as the spread of misinformation.
“Clearly, the ADC is intimidated by the phenomenal success of our party’s e-registration exercise,” he said. “However, that cannot justify concocting and peddling falsehoods in an attempt to smear the process.”
He said while opposition parties continued to “fumble and trade in disinformation,” the APC remained focused on consolidating its reforms and advancing digital and democratic innovation.
