APC Strengthens Base in Edo with Successful Ward Congresses

The All Progressives Congress in Edo state on Wednesday conducted ward congresses across all 192 wards, with party leaders emerging through a consensus process, officials said.

State Chairman Jarret Tenebe, speaking at the party secretariat in Benin City alongside a delegation from the party’s national secretariat, described the exercise as peaceful and in line with guidelines issued by the National Working Committee.

Tenebe said the congresses marked a significant step in strengthening party unity and internal cohesion in the state. He said the guidelines for ward, local government and state congresses were strictly followed, resulting in what he called a seamless process without internal disputes.

He referenced a pledge by Edo Gov. Monday Okpebholo to deliver 3.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, describing it as a collective responsibility for party members.

Tenebe urged the newly elected ward executives to strengthen grassroots structures, mobilize members and ensure that party policies resonate with voters at the community level.

He also called on party leaders to encourage eligible residents to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ward, he said, remains the foundation of the party’s political structure and plays a critical role in electoral outcomes at both state and national levels.
