Former Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on National Assembly Matters, Ibrahim Olarewaju, has dismissed claims that he failed to resign from his position before contesting the All Progressives Congress primary for the Ekiti North Federal Constituency II seat.
Olarewaju’s media office said in a statement issued Wednesday in Ado Ekiti that the former member of the House of Representatives complied with all constitutional, legal and party requirements before participating in the APC primary election in May.
The statement, signed by Moses Owoyemi on behalf of the media team, said Olarewaju’s resignation took effect on March 31, 2026, in line with the directive requiring political appointees seeking elective office to resign.
“His resignation as SSA to the President on National Assembly Matters took effect on March 31, 2026, in compliance with the directive issued to political appointees seeking elective office,” the statement said.
It described allegations that Olarewaju violated the law by contesting the primary without resigning as “incorrect and misleading.”
According to the statement, the resignation is a matter of public record and can be verified through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and media reports.
The media office also defended Olarewaju’s conduct, describing his career in legal practice and public service as one marked by integrity, transparency and adherence to due process.
It said Olarewaju emerged winner of the APC primary election for Ekiti North Federal Constituency II through a transparent process conducted in accordance with the party’s rules.
The statement said the outcome reflected the votes of accredited delegates from Moba, Ilejemeje and Ido-Osi local government areas.
The media office commended party leaders, delegates and aspirants for their peaceful conduct during the primary and urged members of the party to unite ahead of the 2027 general election.
It also called on the public to disregard what it described as speculative claims challenging Olarewaju’s eligibility, expressing confidence in the APC’s internal democratic processes and dispute resolution mechanisms.
The statement added that any grievances arising from the primary election should be addressed through the party’s internal procedures or appropriate legal channels rather than through media campaigns.
