Former Ekiti State Gov. Ayodele Fayose has alleged that Oyo State Gov. Seyi Makinde stepped up his criticism of President Bola Tinubu after failing to achieve a political reconciliation during a recent visit to the Presidential Villa.
In a statement issued Saturday, Fayose said Makinde’s remarks about the Tinubu administration at the birthday event of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo reflected frustration over what he described as an unproductive engagement with the president.
According to Fayose, Makinde sought to mend political ties with Tinubu following earlier comments critical of the federal government but was dissatisfied with the outcome of the meeting.
“As I earlier made public, Governor Makinde went to see the president in an effort to manage the fallout from his earlier remarks, but the outcome of that visit did not meet his expectations,” Fayose said.
He further alleged that Tinubu made it clear during the meeting that he would support candidates of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State during the 2027 general elections.
Fayose argued that Makinde’s subsequent public criticism of the president, including comments unfavorably comparing the current administration with that of former President Muhammadu Buhari, stemmed from the perceived breakdown of reconciliation efforts.
He also urged the APC in Oyo State to intensify political mobilization, claiming Makinde may support a candidate outside the Peoples Democratic Party in the next election cycle.
Makinde has not publicly responded to Fayose’s claims.
