Several Northern groups have accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of abusing power and undermining due process in his handling of key decisions. The groups, under the Northern Democratic Assembly and the Arewa Youths for Democracy, made their position known in a joint statement on Sunday.
They claimed Wike has sidelined established administrative procedures and concentrated too much power in his personal office. According to them, this raises concerns over accountability, transparency, and fair representation in the governance of the FCT.
The statement alleged that appointments, project executions, and resource allocation have been handled with bias, favoring Wike’s political interests rather than the broader public good. They also warned that his current approach could create tension and erode trust in the federal government’s promises of inclusiveness and justice.
The groups further argued that the FCT should not be turned into a political battleground or used to settle political scores. They called on President Bola Tinubu to caution the minister and restore order to the administration of the territory.
In addition, they demanded a review of some recent decisions taken by Wike, especially those affecting land allocations and contracts awarded without proper oversight. The statement urged the National Assembly to investigate these actions and ensure that constitutional standards are upheld in the FCT.
They concluded by saying that no individual, no matter their political standing, should be allowed to run the capital like a personal estate.
